IF THEN WHAT AFTER
Die Arbeiten des rumänischen Künstlerpaares Silvia Amancei & Bogdan Armanu (beide geb. 1991), die in der Ausstellung IF THEN WHAT AFTER im Kunstverein Baden zu sehen sind, weisen eine subtile ästhetische Gemeinsamkeit auf. Sowohl in den Zeichnungen als auch den Videos von Amancei & Armanu werden die RezipientInnen bewusst sehr nahe an die jeweilige Arbeit herangeführt. Das inszenatorische Moment des „Close-up“ und die damit einhergehende Intimität des Blicks ist dabei unterschiedlichen ästhetischen Strategien und inhaltlichen Konzepten geschuldet. Während die kleinformatigen Zeichnungen den Betrachter mit einer Art Lektüre, einem Sehen bei gleichzeitigem Lesen, konfrontieren, wirken die sehr persönlichen Filmporträts der Eltern des Künstlerpaares auf gewisse Weise geradezu immersiv. Die Filme eröffnen dabei ein komplexes semantisches Feld, das sich aus Biografischem, Historischem, Politischem – und deren Repräsentationen – konstituiert.

Silvia Amancei und Bogdan Armanu, die in der Zeit von Jänner bis März zu Gast bei AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich sind, arbeiten seit 2012 als Künstlerpaar zusammen und bewegen sich an den Schnittstellen der Medien Zeichnung, Malerei, Video und Installation. Ihre Arbeiten untersuchen, oftmals auf ironische Weise und zugleich gezielt dekonstruierend, komplexe Zusammenhänge wie die von Design, Ökonomie und Spekulation oder auch von Arbeit und immaterieller Arbeit. Sie fragen nach den Beziehungen zwischen solch vermeintlich getrennten Begriffsfeldern, stets mit kritischem Blick auf ökonomische Zwänge, also, in ihren Worten, die kapitalistische Gesellschaft und ihre evidenten sozialen Konflikte. Amanceis und Armanus Reflexionen setzen oftmals vor dem Hintergrund der ökonomischen und politischen Geschichte Rumäniens an, sie zielen jedoch stets darauf, ihre Arbeiten allgemein übertragbar und lesbar zu machen. Sie betrachten das Spannungsfeld von Geschichte und Zukunft unter ideologischen Gesichtspunkten, stets mit Blick auf das Verhältnis des Einzelnen zur Gesellschaft, oder anders formuliert, vom Subjekt zum herrschenden ökonomischen und politischen System.

Silvia Amancei and Bogdan Armanu is an artist couple living and activating in the city of Iasi, Romania. They graduated BA (2013) and MA (2015) studies at “George Enescu” University of Arts (Faculty of Visual Art and Design) in Iasi. Working within the conceptual framework of new-media and having in the same time a background in fine arts, respectively mural art (Silvia) and painting (Bogdan), in their practice they are trying to transgress the physical and discursive borders of the object (and the labour inscribed in it).
Working together since 2012, the two artists have materialized a series of solo exhibitions, exploring / analysing / deconstructing / decomposing the new paradigm of life (exploitation).
