Zufall und Unabsichtlichkeit
Für die Vögel,
nachgefahrene Bewegungen am Himmel, scheinbar zufällig, unabsichtlich.
In der Gesprächssammlung von Daniel Charles mit John Cage „Für die Vögel“, aus dem Jahr 1970, erklärt John Cage folgendes über den Zufall:“ Wenn wir Zufalllsoperationen benutzen wollen, müssen wir die Resultate akzeptieren. Wir haben kein Recht, sie zu benutzen, wenn wir entschlossen sind, die Resultate zu kritisieren um eine bessere Antwort zu suchen.“
Spuren
Spuren am Himmel als Vogelfluglinien, am Boden als Ameisenfährten, oder als abgeschrittene Wege zur Vermessung einer barocken Gartenanlage auch als Linien, Umrisse von Pflanzen und Gras, direkt nachgefahren, als Übersetzung von Gesehenem zum Dargestellten.
Helle Spuren auch am Himmel, verglühender Staub beim Eintritt in die Erdatmosphäre. So entstanden Sternschnuppenbeobachtungen am Höhepunkt des Perseidenschauers.
Vermessung
Implizierte Fehlleistungen, die sich schon in der Bedeutung des Wortes „Vermessen“ zeigen, ergeben sich auch in meinen „4 Versuchen zur Vermessung einer barocken Gartenanlage“, in der ich versuche Wege und Blumenbeeteinfassungen abzuschreiten und aufzuzeichnen.
Auf Transparentpapier übereinander gelegt, ergeben sie eine Kartographie des Raumes, jeweils versehen mit der Dauer des zurückgelegten Weges.
Himmelsbeobachtungen und Beobachtungsstandorte
Auf der Spur von John Constables Wolkenstudien und Luke Howards Klassifikationssystem „On the modifications on clouds“ von 1803 stehen Himmelsbeobachtungen und Bodenbetrachtungen im Dialog. Die Ausschnitte des Himmels sind durch Silhouetten eingegrenzt. Es ist ein Spiel mit realer und fiktiver Beobachtung. Und ein Spiel mit object trouvees: Fossilien, Schmetterlingen, Luftballonen, Linoleumböden, Teppichen und kartographischem Material, z.B. als Kupferstich, als Lithographie oder abgepaust von Google Earth.
Die Bodenbetrachtungen sind jeweils mit dem Ort der Himmelsbeobachtung, dem Datum und der Beobachtungszeit des Himmels versehen.

Femke van Gent (NL/UK)
My work is a mixture of photography, props, video, performance, interactive
installation and social art projects. I like working with people who are outside the
mainstream art -world and show my work in unconventional places. Exploring both
the dark and light side of play. Often inviting the viewer to become part of the work.
Born in The Netherlands, Femke van Gent moved to North-Wales in 2002. She lives
and works from a rural location on Anglesey.

Drawing Movement
I am interested in documenting the particular character of places and the people in them by documenting energy and rhythm. I try to capture an essence of my subject by recording movement and locating a particular expression, which is only there momentarily.
This intention has been a focus for me now for many years and my work usually begins from expressionist origins and is then refined with topographic detail and compositional devices. My work to date has mostly been executed though traditional process. However, recently I have become interested in the potential of incorporating video with drawing and painting. - Single shot video is projected on to paper in order that it can be drawn and painted into. My challenge is to describe movement through mark making and represent the moving image as a static image.
